Kinnerton Street
RIBA Work Stages: 1 - 4
Project Description:
Reconstruction of a Mews property in the heart of Belgravia. Additional living accommodation was added within a new basement level. The existing ground floor rear garden was altered to provide tiered external space over three levels. The design emphasises a connection between inside and outside, harnesses natural daylight and successfully connects formal and informal living spaces over four floors to create a unique family dwelling in the heart of London.

Additional Information
The design process was comprehensive, exploring the internal configuration of spaces, their link to the external terraces and garden and ensuring the appearance of the property within the street scene meat with the specific design guidance. Through early consultation with Westminster Council and the Grosvenor Estate, the pre-existing but uncharacteristic large windows were maintained to the front elevation retaining an enhanced outlook and excellent daylighting from the front of the property.
Whilst the design acknowledges the character of the original building, it sensitively introduces a more contemporary aesthetic inside and to the rear of the property through full height glazing, walk on roof lights and a feature open tread staircase at the centre of the plan. The property respects its context in appearance and form but embraces the uniqueness of its external space in a way that delights and surprises once inside.
The project was led by Mark Watson whilst working at Concept Eight Architects Ltd.
